I used to buy my meds in Ensenada and thought they were a bargain. I refilled my scripts in Nevada and received a 90 day supply for less then I was
paying in Baja....depends on what health plan/insurance/medicare plans you have. |
I'm "self insured". Are you saying you paid for the meds in NV without insurance and they were cheaper than in Ensenada?

Nah, had insurance...............however shop around as much as possible. I had a friend pick up my meds in San Felipe and they were about half of
what I was being charged in Ensenada....same packaging.

You and Dennis are the only ones that are brave enough to post their resting blood pressures. I still want to know what Woody's is after taking his
BP meds 2 hours later, resting 15 minutes. Great BP Geoff!!

Losartan 25 mg, took it for 3 years but had to quit as I slowly became allergic to it------cheeks, tongue, and lips swelled up like crazy. Now I take
nothing.
Tried 5 different types of BP meds--------allergic to all of them, and had similar reactions. They all did lower my BP, tho.
Now, at age 75, I live with high BP----------about 145/95 + -

Barry,
A very good medication is Clonidine, or Catapres, .1 mg. It lowers your blood pressure quickly and makes you a little drowsy, if you take it before
bedtime, you can get a good night's rest as well. Quote: | Originally posted by Barry A.

That is 0.1 mg. Start out with that dosage, which is the lowest. Of course, make sure you ok it with your personal physician, as always. Quote: | Originally posted by Barry A.

Note: Do NOT use clonidine with Varapamil if you are Rx'd Verapamil, a very common BP and heart rate control med.
Additional note: Ask your personal MD about adding or subtracting medications from your personal formulary. I do not self-medicate. It gets more and
more important as I age...
PS: Minus the Verapamil, the clonidine did exactly what Ensenada Dr. said it would. Sadly I need the Verapamil more than the clonidine...

He didn't ban anything but the big cup. The soda was still readily available.
It was just "control freak" stooopid.
"Oh....I can't have a big cup? Well....give me two smaller cups instead."

Processed foods and restaurant foods always contain high levels of sodium. It is the cheapest flavor enhancer. Sodium intake is the biggest problem
with elevated blood pressure bar none.
There are myriad reasons that people may have elevated BP. But, as has been mentioned earlier, sometimes, it's just genetics. In midlife, I bicycled
10 miles a day, five days a week. The exception was when I had to make numerous business trips around the country. I had a weight ranging between 190
and 210, on a 6'4" frame. Yet, my BP was still hovering around 140/90. Now, I'm much older. Don't ride the bike. I'm now 245. I take Losartin,
Amlopdipine, and Triamtermine daily and my BP is 130/78. But, due to the medications side effects. I feel crappy more often than not.
That brings me to question whether the so-called healthy BP readings were not overly influence by big pharma for profit.

What works for me,
Is drinking an extra three or four glasses of water a day. Does it help to flush sodium?

Exactly!!! I feel so much better since I quit BP meds altogether. I do drink A LOT of water daily, and have for years-----I think that helps. At my
age (75) I am interested in 'quality of life', not feeling bad for years to come------so I will take my chanches with elevated BP.

Resting 130/80. Tachyacardia last night and this morning, pulse to 130bpm. When B/P reached 160/110 resting, checked into an ER where it peaked
at 190/120, P = 140. Still haven't figured it out and MDs are scratching their heads. Blood/thyroid fine. Swear I'm healthy.

Verapamil is a calcium channel blocker and Clonidine has a totally different mechanism of action. I have included a link which mentions possible side
effects of using the two together, that is why you should make sure your heart rate is not too low when using both of them together. But most
medcations have warnings when used concurrently. Why not ask your doctor to switch you over to another Calcium channel blocker such as Diltiazem?

What are your meds? I think you need to see a cardiologist ASAP and get a 24 hour Holter monitor. You need to be on some blood pressure medication
and possibly one that will lower your heart rate. You might have paroxysmal atrial fibrillation or superventricular tachycardia. Quote: | Originally posted by Lee

I get my lowest BP readings after a couple of beers.. No kidding, really, it's true.
Never measured after 4 or more beers.
Who cares then?
In fact I'm in the process of lowering my BP now after a day working in the yard.
Salud amigos!
