here in Bahia Asuncion we had the busiest Xmas holiday season ever with really interesting guests from all over the world...mostly young-uns which was cool and epic fishing! It has slowed down now but still steady.

Talking to the whale operators in GN, they have less reservations than last year and are a bit worried about the downturn again in tourism due to gas prices and cartel activity down south.

Go read the Talk Baja page on the horrific multiple (3) bicycle/ (3) auto pile up on Hwy. 1 on 1/6/15. My worst fears about the safety of riding bikes where there is no shoulder seems to be valid with the evidence presented? 9 dead according to the Jan. 9 post on Talk Baja (in the thread on the Desert Hawks rescue)!

I average 5 trips south of el rosario a year spreading at least 1000-$2000 per along the way. The single biggest deterrent is FUEL costs. I run to Bahia Tortugas and back on about 150 gallons of diesel. Hopefully the strong dollar rate will hold as I would like to go to Mag Bay this year.

i just got back from driving from SD to Cabo and back, it seemed to me like The gringo bite was wide open. but then again, i truly have no frame of reference... Bahia Concepcion was quite packed.

as per the fuel bit, i put 2700 miles on the odometer and dropped 470 USD at the pumps. getting only 20 MPG avg with my subaru :(

Don't know who figured no caravans this year as there was one from British Columbia yesterday that had the gas station in Santa Rosalia blocked up for an hour and a half. Around 30 or more units that I saw.

If using the liters pumped figures off the Pemex pumps to figure your mileage, as a lot of stations have inaccurate pumps favoring the station owner, you will think you are getting terrible mileage. If you know how many gallons (liters) your tank holds, at the various points on the gauge, then you may come up with a better rate for your Subaru.

For example, I know that when I am down to the 1/4 tank line on my gauge, I have used 13 gallons. When I filled up at that point in Tecate, I recall they got close to 16 gallons in!!! That will make you think you are getting terrible mileage! Call it the having fun in Mexico tax and don't let it spoil your trip.

Gasoline prices are government controlled and all Pemex stations are locked at the same rate, nation-wide... although Nomads post some small differences, sometimes. Perhaps that rule is changed in anticipation of the soon to be free market with competition in gas sales coming soon?

Well B & S, being in the real estate business in Mulege, still you should not tell stories.
I live permanetly in this town for the last 11 years, and know it since 1973.
The count of tourists is way, way down.
