Tossing the Ashes

An elderly Baja neighbor of mine died and was cremated. His wish had been to have his ashes spread in the Estero at Rancho Percebu. His surviving spouse, herself in her late 70s could not bring herself to come back to Baja and relive the memories so her family took her out to The Colorado River and tossed the ashces with the rationale that they would eventually get to Percebu. That is, if they didn't get sucked into the numerous irrigation projects. He may have never made it out of Blythe.

I have a friend who used to fly to Gonzaga now and then with a pilot who had an old
Cessna 140. The pilot made a sideline out
of dumping ashes over the Joshua Tree National Monument. I don't remember how much he got, but it didn't seem enough to
make it worthwhile. It turned out that he
just waited until he had a number of them and dumped them all at once. Sure sounds sensitive and romantic to me.

Hmmm... interesting topic. My driver's license and medical records say I'm an organ donor so I guess that's first.

My family understands that should I die while in the US I'd like them to sneak out into my back yard in the night (so neighbors won't notice), dig hole, toss me in, add dirt and plant a couple rose bushes atop - you know, the old-fashioned multi-petaled classic red ones that scent the morning and evening aire with sweetness. Barring that, I'll be ashed and scattered in the Pacific (hopefully in no one's teeth!).

Should I die in Baja I'll never notice 'cause when there I'm already in heaven. Let "whatever" happen to my carcass.

A couple of summers ago some friends let me store my boat at their place in San Diego. To repay the favor I offered to take them out some time. On the appointed day I was told that a friend of theirs had died and they were asked to put her ashes in SD bay. A noble thing to do I thought. The day turned out to be very rough sea conditions, with a strong wind. I headed to open ocean anyway, not wanting to put the ashes in the bay. My friends wife starts to get a little queezy. :barf: So I figured we had gone far enough and stopped the boat to say a few words and drop the ashes. Well my friends wife, who was not feeling well, decides to spread the ashes in the fastest way she could, which happen to be directly into the wind. I don't think there was a person on the boat who didn't get a taste of that ladys ashes, and I know there is probably plenty left on board to guide my future trips. Who would have thought such a seemingly simple thing could have such a long lasting effect.

I could have thought about this subject for multiple years and never have come up with your salute to the place we all love---"Should I die in Baja I'll never notice 'cause when there I'm already in heaven. Let "whatever" happen to my carcass."

I think when my last gasps come I will struggle south to accept Natalie's future.

Susan an I have had several discussions on what to do with me when I pass....she's a little younger than me.

She has decided to keep collecting my retirement money by just telling people I'm on a long vacation....

She says she'll tie the ski rope to my legs and drag me to sea with the boat for the fish....(i've eaten enough of them)

I said that would be OK "just let the ski rope go..."

Susan says "Forget you..I'm keeping the rope for later!!":lol:

I'd like to have my ashes put into a bunch of empty waxed milk cartons, to be set afire and set afloat in the Pacific some evening when the tide's going out.
