What a great time we had! Clapped and yelled encouragement during the small town parade (except, of course to the Democrat float); went off roading through a narrow canyon to petroglyphs; then went to the lake to watch the fireworks. They burst directly over us, it seemed, and encompassed the entire night sky in our vision radius. Awesome! Oh, and rode a jet ski on the lake. That was a first for me. Very fun.

Went to overlook Elephant Butte Lake for the show. We had 25 min. of great sky rockets. But what is unique it the pregame show - 1 1/2 hr. of spectators shooting skyrockets - all around us. Only about 15 cars ahead of us leaving so that's a BIG plus. They get about 100,000 visitors at the lake for the 4th each year.

Just got back from La Bocana. Made braised elk short ribs for dinner Saturday, some neighbors dropped by with excellent wine, and things were blown up in spectacular fashion. A good time was had by all. Best of all, SENTRI today at San Ysidro was 9 minutes, shorter than the 12 minutes at the Santo Tomas checkpoint and the 15 minutes stuck behind a semi in the highway construction south of Maneadero, which briefly delayed an always excellent lunch at Tacos Los Poblanos.
