Henshaw,

Have you considered Detroit? It may be more interesting than East LA.

I agree with many of the other posters - stay out of Baja. You aren't the kind of person who needs to visit here.

Open-minded people survive much better down here, especially when they don't judge EVERYTHING by American standards, as if that is really a highly regarded standard to hold dear, any longer.

It's not just you, Gull, but from the start, I thought that sentiment was kind of harsh. All he did was ask a concerned question and he was set upon be over-reaction and nastiness.
Are you concerned that he and his family will be competeing with you for lunch at the landfill?:lol:

By the way, Gull....I'm happy that you arn't dead as reported. It gives me something to hope for. Jes kiddin'.

You are right, Dennis, there has been a bit of hostility expressed on this thread. But I don't think that it has been aimed at the question so much as the comments that followed.

I don't pretend to speak for others. What I found so offensive was his comparison of camping in Baja to camping on an E. LA side street, where "at least you'd know who was going to rip you off" or words to that effect.

He also expresses concerns for the safety of American travelers "who are being raped on a daily basis in CC" and wonders if this is an attitude that is likely to spread to the rest of Baja.

I think his remarks were intended to elicit precisely the reaction he got from some of us.

Frankly, Dennis, I'm surprised by how lax you are being with this individual--especially since he's a newbie. You usually keep us in line when we say stupid things.
Now break out your whip and get to work!

It is very difficult for me as a 38 year experienced Baja Sur Resident and Tourist to understand the Flithy and Scummy use of words by Tripper.

"who are being raped on a daily basis""

That is one of the main things about this Youngers generation of Commie.Socialists that are trying to change our Great USA, they throw out those charged words that have No Truth Whatsoever' and what is even worse is that there are many who believe those Scummy Lies and Words.

I often wonder "What do these kind of People do for a Living. I see their HATE and think about the Condition of their Heart.

Henshaw-

Unless you will be happy about being overrun by rude, nasty, redneck gringos in Los Barriles, please do cancel your reservations. Mexicans are not the problem!

Goat, again you prove ignorance cannot be corrected. I made no such assertion as to being open minded.

Not my job to keep the peace here. I just thought the guy took an uncalled for beating...for pretty much nothing.
When did you folks fall in love with East LA, anyway? Why is that incorporated sewer worth defending? Is it national pride?
Save those sentiments for Mt Rushmore.

So does that make legal aliens conservatives? :?:

This "new law" wasn't voted on by the people of AZ. It's a Senate Bill.

I didn't realize that. It doesn't seem like the people are disagreeing much with it so I though they had approved it (beyond electing their gov't officials that is).

Well guys, here’s my take on the response to the original questions. I asked for feedback and got it in spades.
Before I start I want to let everyone know that we do love Mexico and will be spending the winter in Los Barriles and hope to meet some of you during our stay. However it was very interesting to see how the various responses ranged from sarcasm to criticism, honest opinions by some, some sincere people that really wanted to help and did so. Last but not least some used it as a platform to voice political opinions not related to the original subject. Strange how that works, a little pot stirring goes a long ways.
I believe the one thing that was accomplished was thought processes were stimulated and perhaps some minds were opened but the good part was everyone was able to grasp the opportunity to express their feelings and they can’t be criticized for that. I believe that’s healthy and informative. I did get the information I wanted and for that I’m grateful.

So to coin a biblical phrase, Babylon!

When in Baja I treat the locals with respect, and I get the respect back from them. Mexicans are a very proud people and they don't take kindly to visiting gringos who show up with the "I'm better than you attitude", or" we don't do it that way in California" attitude.

If more of us gringos would sit down with our Baja Mexican friends and explain that we like Mexicans, but we don't like illegal Mexicans, it would be something they would understand.

Respect where respect is due.

Whenever someone says "When in Mexico, I show the people respect ................"

Is that As opposed to NOT showing people respect elsewhere ?

People should ALWAYS be shown the respect due them, whoever and wherever they may be and nobody should be applauded for acting appropriately. It should simply be expected.
