A friend of ours used facebook (in addition to others) as a way of finding additional bone marrow donors. Most users have over 100 friends and each friend has 100 friends so the word on the drive got out very quickly.

I'm hoping for the best for your daughter.

Hi Sally,

Cancer is such a nasty disease. I am sorry to hear it continues to be an issue for Juanita.

You are a beautiful family and you know we all have you in our thoughts.

Thank you so much guys.Yesterday they found a donor and when the last of the platelets were pumped into her she said she felt like her old self. There has ben so much damage done to her body and brain. Her little sis Amy will be seeing her tomorrow and then I will know more about her condition.I am taking care of G-girls so they can have their time together.Another note (to me)ask what her donor type/needs are, thanks to S.Joe. Abrazos and more, Sally

Be The Match Foundation. It's very easy to register, it just takes a bit of spit, which flies abundantly on this board. To be able to give the gift of life to someone is amazing, and if you are chosen there is no cost what so ever to the donor. I've been registered for two years now. Check it out...

Sally, all of our prayers are with Juanita, her girls, you and your family. I want to read more good news!

She is doing well today! They have her on a tiny patch to manage her pain. The dilatid was making her so dopey and fuzzy! Her body is taking the chemo well and she was actually a bit feisty on the phone today! The foundation that Paulina spoke of, has found several potential matches for her, which is so important.I will be seeing her soon, after I take care of my doctor stuff and can get up there.Update then. Thanks for the prayers and good thoughts!

Todays report, After some major screw ups with a bone marrow test that produced none, the second one was sucessful and the results are that she is , once again, in remission! No cancer cells found and she is waiting for the donor to be found and brought to her.It is a person to person transfer.Sitting(or laying) next to each other while the marrow is transferred. That person has to be in the best of health, no bugs or problems.Geez, are there really people out there like that? What an ordeal my girl has been going thru.I will be seeing her tomorrow and will report later. Thanks for the prayers and positive thoughts!! Sally, I fall far short of understanding the medical ramifications of Juanita's disease, but I know enough to understand that a no cancer report is good news. As I understand this sort of treatment, at this point, her bone marrow needs to be re-seeded with donor marrow so she can again make her own blood cells, right? Until she gets the bone marrow transplant she is very vulnerable to infection, yes?

In any case, I'm very glad that the treatment has gone this well thus far, and pray that a donor is found quickly, and that the transplanted marrow "takes" and begins making new blood cells. I certainly hope and pray that this ordeal is in it's closing chapters, and that Juanita can get back to being a mom and daughter!

Anew day here.I went with my daughter Amy and her girls to visit Juanita. She is doing well and is, as I said, in re-mission.They are giving her steriods and she looks kinda like a sumo wrestler(face only) but her eyes are clear as is her mind and speech. She may be getting out this Friday, coming home until they find a donor. They have two possible donors. Then she has her marrow transplant, six weeks of quarantine. If all goes well, she is done and can resume her life!! Thank you all again for your positive energy!!I will post at the end of this week.Abrazos, Sally

The fight continues. She has an infection, of the UTI, a fever, and is not producing her white cells. She is almost in a coma, can not stay awake, and in a lot of pain. Her Sister went to see her today and was told that of the four possible donor matches for her(bone marrow) in the US, not one has replied to letters or calls made from the doctors or staff at UCI.So next they try to contact donors from Europe. At this point, it is looking very grim.We keep on hoping and trying to be possitive.Anyone on this board get tested? If so, Bless you, and thank you.I'll let yolu know if there is any GOOD news...Abrazos Nomads, you are the BEST! Sally. An after thought, can someone post a pic of her on the cover of WON that was a few years back?(um, DK?) so that all can see the vibrant person she is? Just a thought...;)

Sally, I'm so sorry. That is so sad that the potential donors are flaking. It is a big commitment to sign up, one that should be seriously considered before hand so this kind of situation doesn't happen.

Sending tons of positive energy your direction.
