Oh sure. It's an uneven heart beat, like.......thub blub thub blub blub thub blub thub blub blub............something like that in minor cases. More severe cases, you can feel with your hand, or other ways.
Get a stethoscope and listen.

They have these wrist band heat monitors...Costco here....70 bucks.....that will tell you everything.....bp/ pulse and an indicator for uneven heart beat.....A-Fib. I use mine daily.

Not on meds. Today GP told me to see a cardio next week for a Event Monitor (worn for a month). No hx of this stuff. ER doc asked if I was ''A Fib''. You know your stuff.

Yup. Have a Steath and THAT is what I sounded like yesterday. About every 3 beat was off -- like it was skipping. Freaked out. GP said the Event Monitor can ''take a picture'' of the A-Fib -- I just push a button on the monitor.

Other symptoms in the a.m. during tachy: sweating, left shoulder ache (thought it was from working out the day before). Totally caught off guard by this stuff.

Dennis is talking about cardioversion which can take your heart out of an irregular rhythm. However, there are many causes for afib, and all of them have to be ruled out including an electrolyte imbalance, abnormal anatomy of the heart and/or valves (can be seen with a TEE or doppler study). You are taking the right step in getting the event monitor, but if you notice your heart rhythm going very fast, you might try the valsalva maneuver which is akin to bearing down as in a bowel movement. No kidding I had a young 20 year old guy come in to the ER and his heart rhythm was racing uncontrollably. I told him to go into the bathroom and act like he was having a bowel movement, and after the third try his heart was back to normal. Always head to the ER if you have an episode like this and call your doctor if your heart rate starts going over 120 and/or your blood pressure goes over 160/110.

My BP usually varies a lot, but resting BP, 2 hours after meds, and early morning:

from 115 to 138 over 66 to 90. Heart rate is 58 to 72

Here are my meds:
Cartia 240mg
Carvedilol 6.25 mg
Atorvastatin 40mg

Estazolam 2mg
Temazepam 30 mg

Trilipix 135mg

Now for my daily vitamin supplements:
Selenium 200mcg
D-3 2000iu
Cinnamon 500mg
Fish oil (Omega3) 1400mg
Psyllium husks 200mcg
Vit. C 3000mg
Daily multivitamin from Costco ! large pill
Niacin 500mg
Potassium Gluconate 550mg
Valerian root 450mg

Last PSA 7.2 (30 days ago) which has been my average for the last three years.

Had it not been for Jana's running marathons, 15 years ago, I would never have known about my cholesterol and my BP. I went to pick up her race packet and afterward I stopped at a free BP test booth.
My BP and heart rate were off the charts. No wonder they call high blood pressure the silent killer! I felt fine! Had it not been for that day, i would not be writing this.

All my MDs are aware of my daily vitamin intake

Yes, Udo, high blood pressure is the silent killer alright, in fact most people feel better off the BP meds than on them, but the real test is the sphygmomanometer!!

My father had multiple episode of tachycardia after he turned 70. Three time he had to go to the ER and have them use the paddles to stop and restart his heart. He died at 76 with what was diagnosed as congestive heart failure. Sorry Dennis.

OH man, no doesn't sound right. Seems like someone else had a problem with Cymbalta. That blood pressure is off the charts...and it would seem to coincide with your taking Cymbalta. One of the side effects of Cymbalta is high blood pressure. Please see your doctor immediately.

There are now medications, such as calcium channel blockers, like Diltiazem, beta Blockers, and a newer drug called Amiodarone which can control episodes of tachycardia.
