I do it but not very often, just to many people change lanes without looking. Many are drifting in and out of lanes because they are on their phones
when traffic is slow. Most often I do it at stop lights and scoot to the front to avoid being hit while stopped behind a car.
Last week I had three guys pass me on the right, over the fog line at near triple speeds on a two lane road, I was doing 65? Young and dumb will
catch up with them at some point.

I am not a fan of lane-splitting.....don't need to do it in my area, and think it is too risky in more congested locales.
But I anticipate drivers around me and always assume they don't see me. Getting ahead of traffic in town and on the highways makes sense to me....and
watching out at stop signs and traffic lights for the vehicle behind me is good practice.
Riding motos has made me a better cage driver.

I only started riding in 2013 but I've logged over 170,000 mi. since then. I've had 3 injuries. 2 on the street and one in the dirt. None were the
fault of anyone else. I'm an avid lane splitter as I commute by bike 3-5 days a week in 60 mi. round trip in heavy traffic. Like anything else, there
are techniques that allow you to lane share safely and effectively.
The CHP published guidelines but there are no vehicle codes specifying speeds. Yes, there are idiots who take unnecessary risks but more then likely,
if it wasn't lane sharing, it would be something else.
It's always amazing to me that folks who have never done it have such passionate negative feelings about lane splitting.

dang dravnx, that's a bunch of riding. they say there is no zealot like a convert.
what kind of motorbike to you ride? i too wonder why lane splitting gets folks who dont do it upset. i would wager most mishaps only injure the guy
on the moto. cheers

In defense of auto drivers, I suspect some don't like it because they are:
1. Jealous the bike is getting in front of them.
2. Just got scared sh*tless when the bike raced past them and they didn't expect or see it coming.
3. Got an earful of loud exhaust.
4. Had their side mirror hit or knocked off.
5. Just don't like motorcyclists.
6. Are haters of most everything.

and the automobile drivers are quite certain that the riders are having a lot more fun.

I'm on my second Suzuki DL650. Put 110,000 on the first and have around 10,000 on the one I bought last spring. It's been a slow riding year. I also
have a 2015 FJR1300 with 50,000 mi.
Doug pretty much nailed it.
