Adjusting to Island life, San Juancio BCS 9/21/14

Maybe they're referring to the Santo Domingo arroyo on the highway near Insurgentes? That would be close enough to civilization to have the equipment
to work on the road. The 2 big local arroyos are the biggest obstacles to getting in and out of San Juanico/ Cadeje etc and there's no equipment or
work crews out here. When it comes to crossing those arroyos, there won't be an "opening day" for a road. For a while at least, it'll depending on
when you're willing to take the risk.
Talked to Pancho this AM and he was able to drive the South road out yesterday. Asked him how it was and he shook his head while saying "muy, muy
malo". He made it though Burros and San Ramon arroyos and got as far as the Santo Domingo arroyo near Insurgentes but that's still full and
impassable. A couple days ago there was a panga ferrying people across where this arroyo crosses the highway, if you want to leave your car on the
other side that is.
Lots of thunder yesterday afternoon with clouds over the mesas and the smell of rain in the air. No rain here, but it might have added more water to
flooded arroyos. Clouds started building up early today.
There won't be any gas for a while, so we're conserving and not doing a lot of exploring so some of my information is 2nd hand reports. But we saw
video of the conditions at Los Burros and San Ramon crossings taken 2 days ago and it actually worse than what had been described. WOW! Even after the
water level drops it's going to be sketchy for a while.

Ahhh, it ain't so bad! It's a beautiful day. Launched the panga and caught a handful of tuna today. There are thunderheads up in the mountains so it
may rain and fill the arroyos again but, don't stress, it's just a couple of days before they get the road open. As a matter of fact, two guys just
showed up that made it through from the south - they said the water was deep and the road was rough but they made it!
It's a step backward, for sure, but things will get back to normal (for here) very soon. Keep a positive outlook and be thankful - our dear friends to
the south have a lot more to deal with than we do.
Enjoy the day!

Mass exodus from Cabo and elsewhere to go to la Paz for food, a few remain home to protect possessions, inspections exist at many locations to
identify thieves with new items and no receipts-no exceptions, curfew starts at 10pm-no excuses, no place to go for many. Long line for drinking water
at the ayuntamiento La Paz -all enforced by all three levels of government, municipio of Cabo San Lucas is accused of failure to respond properly with
police and support preceding chaos.
Issue in Cabo with the criminal element, even a gang of professors were arrested for looting, there are reportedly organized 26 gangs identified in
Cabo who now have no other source of food or income or support except theft. Standoffs have occurred betweens gangs and police, with violence, rocks,
guns, injury and deaths though not reported in the news.
Lots of improvement all around and great support from La Paz and among neighbors. Three mobile health stations. Walmart and Soriana open tomorrow
reportedly. One more week of school break.

Apparently Telmex turned on all homes phones regardless of payment + 75 pesos credit to all telcel cell phones. Moviestar has opened all cell calls
for free.

From Baja Pony Express
A team from the U.S. State Department will be at Palmas de Cortez Hotel tomorrow morning, Monday, to help Americans and Canadians who need assistance
and evacuation. But see the next sentence......they may not be able to get to Los Barriles!
Just got a call, this morning the bridge just south of Miraflores is out and NOT PASSABLE. A gentleman at the site said it will take two or three
days???
The airports at San Jose del Cabo and La Paz are open and flying out evacuees.
Rained today on the EastCape.
I will update as soon as I receive more information.

thanks so much for the updates in San Juanico etc. Now we know why hurricane preparedness is so important...stockpile water, food, gas etc. Maybe now
people will take it more seriously.
I am really very proud of the mexican government for getting things going soooo quickly.

Any word on conditions in San Juanico?
