For many years, that was the safest time to cross trough TJ.

Bloody decks is an excellent forum if you are a hard core fisherman. Baja Nomads is an excellent forum for a variety of baja enthusiasts...different
strokes for different folks! This bd has alot of good stuff about Baja (most of the time), that bd has alot of good stuff about fishing (always). The
bds are what they are and their personalities are very different.
Work is just something I do to keep me buzy between baja trips!

Down here most fatal accidents happen at those wee hours of the morning, that is why everybody tells everybody "don't drive at night in Baja!"
This is an open range, animals are on the road at night, drunk drivers are on the road at night, drunk truckers are on the road at night. All these
are deadly dangerous at night. What part of "don't drive at night!" don't you understand?
Now, add an area that is known for its deplorable crimes at night, then there is really no excuse for complaining that something bad happened at
night.
If you need to make it to Loreto (or anywhere else) in one day, then you are taking your chances... then don't protest and grumble if something bad
happens...

report from Fox web site....
A vacation south of the border turns dangerous when a local man is attacked and robbed on the road. Now, he's sending a warning to other travelers
about going to Mexico.
Derek Arneson was on his way from Baja California when his friends were stopped by what he thought was an unmarked police car near the border. Derek,
travelling in the car ahead, pulled over too.
"As soon as they parked, they jumped. They came out just like this, real fast towards my windshield," said Derek Arneson.
While Arneson got away, his friends were taken for everything, including their wedding rings.
"Any American going down there is at great risk," said Andy Ramirez of Friends of the Border Patrol. "The level of border violence is so high south of
the border, no person is guaranteed safety."
There have been two other reports attacks. Vehicles described in all cases are Ford Explorer type vehicles with dashboard mounted lights.
Most of these attacks are happening during the night so if you're headed across to Mexico, it's best to travel during the day.

I still like to cross the border at 0300 to 0400. I am going to make my house in Loreto in ONE day... DO NOT STOP for anything? WTF? I have
installed super bright off road lights on the front of my truck. What is next. Bumpers like they have in CO and WY for hitting deer and elk....???
Really hard to stop a Ford F-250 or F-350 diesel truck. I do not know about the rest of you guys, but I am not going to stop until the next toll
booth..... I will stuff my 8000# 350 HP truck up their ass before I get pulled over by a fake cop! I guess I will be adding more steel to the
truck???

You are my kind of guy!!!!! I would like to suggest that you add some driving lights that aim to the rear...either a bumper or under bumper mount or
if you have roof mounts......nothing like 100 watts of driving light glare to ruin your night vision.....maybe a ball mount hitch at about radiator
height front and rear.........a handheld spotlight in the cab might be a good idea. Also a siren that makes plenty of noise under the hood....lights,
noise and a fast moving truck should do the job.

I think I lost it there for a moment. Just checked the batteries in the boat and checked the cuddy. Everthing is good and mellow. Radar and Furuno
is 100%. I am sticking the boat on the closest water I can find and the dog and I are going to relax! I might even throw the hook and stay the
night. On the bright side, my brother just called and paid for my airfare to the house in Loreto during Thanksgiving. WOW, no dash run and smashing
into fake cops on the toll road in the next two months. Damn!!!
Sorry Bajaguy for flipping out. Its been more than two months since I have been to Loreto. I found my hand held spot light and am looking for my
train air horns. Although I did find sixteen more off road lights to mount on the truck. That is why I bought a four door long bed????? I think I
can get a dozen more lights and I found a custom alternator bracket that mounts on the hood. You only have to cut a small hole in the hood....

I hope you have bullet proof glass too! I think about the poor lady that was shot through the window and killed last year when her husband refused to
pull over.

Fox 6 news sure needs to have an online proofreader for all of the grammatical errors in this 12 sentence story...

Well, I do not care what Country you are in no Government should surrender its roads or communities to thugs. They should do undercover runs with
Feds in the trucks or cars at those hours to nail these thugs or crooked cops whatever the situation really is. Enough is Enough and when everone
starts saying fix it or lose those that would bring monies into your communities to help the locals live better lives with the extra cash. My stance
is the same I am not stopping in the middle of anywhere with some unmarked vehicle trying to pull me over. Toll road entry or exit will be fine or
local town police station will be my only stops in such a situation. That's why I buy good Mexican insurance that affords me an attorney and I also
have a Mexican attorney I have used several times whom I can call at any time of the day or night. Let the games begin and Mexico needs to go
undercover just like Florida had to when they were robbing the tourists on the highways and roadside parks. Again, we should never just accept
something wrong, however taking less risks should always be considered when traveling anywhere. Later, bajafun777

SURFER MAGAZINE ARTICLE
There is another very similar article in Surfer Magazine I was just sent--------don't know the month, or year, but think it is very recent. I don't
think that this is a duplicate of what has already been posted.

Seems odd to me that these carjackings keep happening at the same place and during the same hours and the TJ police can't seem to (or don't want to)
catch these banditos. Do you think there could possibly be some sort of connection with the local TJ police. Nah! You would think the least they
would do would be to put more patrol cars in the area to protect the public. Well, its obvious that its much safer to drive through during the
daylight hours. Thats the least one should do to minimize their exposure.
